چکیده

Debates about the effects of technology on creative output have raged for some time and have intensified in recent years. On the one hand, some proponents of nearly unfettered technological advancement argue that it is largely a boon to creative output and that copyright frequently operates to impede both creative output and technological innovation. Copyright, therefore, should be relaxed in significant respects. Indeed, some go so far as to argue that copyright in today’s technological world can often be dispensed with; the purported incentive spark of copyright is unnecessary to facilitate creative activity in many contexts. Can Algorithms Support the Specification of Construction Schedules?

Construction processes require preparation phases where rules, agreements and arrangements for the execution of the project are discussed and determined. Detailed information is worked out where among others the construction activities are named and follow up charts are determined. In practice, follow up charts are developed that describe the project in different levels of detail. The quality o...

Infrastructure Systems Interdependencies and Risk Informed Decision Making (RIDM): Impact Scenario Analysis of Infrastructure Risks Induced by Natural, Technological and Intentional Hazards

Infrastructure can be defined as physical assets that are capable of an intended service delivery, comprising of rigid assets such as buildings, roads, bridges, and facilities, as well as flexible assets such as utilities and facilities related to water, sewage, power etc. including their systems and machinery. Infrastructure systems can be viewed as a structured network of interdependent mecha...

Dealing with tight couplings and multiple interactions in complex technological systems

In this paper we discuss the challenges of dealing with interdependencies in complex assemblages of heterogeneous and interconnected information systems (IS), which we conceptualize as organizationwide information infrastructures. We draw on Perrow’s studies of complex technological systems, where interactions, mechanisms, and couplings are emphasized. We base our paper on an empirical case stu...

Interlaced Knowledge in the Emergence of a New Architecture at ATLAS, CERN

We report on a longitudinal study of the emergence of the ATLAS detector, a complex technological system developed at CERN, Geneva. Our data show that justification is an important mechanism for coordination, and that it results in the creation of interlaced knowledge, i.e., a partial overlapping of knowledge across actors and groups. Neither ?modular? nor ?common,? such interlaced knowledge co...
